Since Charlemagne and I work for God, I thought it time to give a report from the front lines.
Item 1: Pope Benedict gets an iPod. His reponse? "Computer technology is the future." Pithy.
Item 2 (Charlemagne gets credit for this delightful discovery): Get your Pope merch! I happen to know the Big C has his eye on the "Papist" trucker lid.

My first time visiting St. Peter's, I approached a man hawking pope merch from a street cart.
"Do you have any pope bottle openers?"
"Eh?"
I simulated opening a beverage bottle.
"Ah!" he exclaimed. "L'appribotigglia del Santo Padre!" And he produced one, cheap metal with JP's face. I bought five. That was 15 years ago. I don't have any of them anymore. I miss them.
I have a friend who collects snow-globes, so in Rome I almost bought her a really pretty one with a dark blue background and gold stars. Then I saw the pope-globe, which consisted of an enormous plastic pope blessing a tiny plastic Rome. It was awesome.
