Great little piece by Maud Newton

in Granta online about her father. It's extremely short, but a tour de force. Look how much story and reflection she crams into that small space.

Years of blogging pay off. I'm not being glib, there's something to be said for writing short-form day after day.

That's a great point. Things must fly in and out for her so quickly that she's developed a superkeen sense of what's relevant. I mean, that's a big story she addressed there -- and deftly drew the essence of it in five not-even-long paragraphs. What to leave out matters a lot.
