Found Photos

What a swell idea for a Web site. People find photos, these folks take 'em and scan 'em. Thousands of pictures, many of them excellent, many amateurishly charming, many bizarre. Compulsively did I scroll and scroll and scroll and wonder who all these people are. Great for getting ideas for characters. Behind every one of these is a story. Always the chance you'll see someone you know -- or see yourself in one.

Sometimes the most artless photographs, the kind seen in every family's plastic covered album reveal the most amazing things. Thanks for the link.

If you like that, you'll love Found magazine: photographs, letters, grocery lists, unclassifiable treasures. God only knows where and how often the actual magazine is available, but they've published a couple of collections, which you can find in most bookstores, usually in the humor section. Highly recommended.

kclou, I hadn't thought about the legality. I suppose if you saw yourself and didn't want it up there, you could ask them to remove it. And if they didn't you could go to court and a judge would tell us all if it was legal.

i think the general rule is copyright inheres with the artist (ie photographer), so consent is not absolutely necessary (therefore the paparazzi) but there are ways you can claim invasion of privacy or perhaps sue under the defamation tree. maybe even under moral rights, although those are normally attached to copyright. hmmm.
