The Ministry of Reshelving

is trying to relocate copies of George Orwell's 1984 from their present, incorrect place in bookstores (Fiction) to somewhere more appropriate (Current Events, U.S. Politics, or similar). If you do it, you're supposed to report it to the Ministry. Their goal: to reshelve 1,984 copies throughout the U.S.

It's this kind of thing that makes the Web the most valuable and important way to fritter away time in history.

Wow, lots of very personalized messages on here today - and they just happen to include links to other sites. Hmmm.

In any case, I totally LOVE the Ministry of Reshelving idea. Also, as I've said before, if you haven't read or re-read 1984 recently, you must do so ASAP. The IC Library even has it as a book on CD.

What happened to cause all this spam al of a sudden? I can barely delete it fast enough.

But ooh... who reads the book on the CD?? Jeremy Irons would be good. John Hurt maybe. David Bowie would be fab. Wait -- Billy Connolly!

I can't remember who the reader was, but it was someone inoffensive (and perhaps unknown). I really hate it when I get a bad reader, but whoever did this one was good.

I tried to join the ministry of reshelving's efforts today in a Waldenbooks I passed at the mall, but they didn't have it. In fact, I don't think they had any fiction written before 1990, with the exception of Daniel Steele and Stephen King.
