What American accent do you have?

If you're American, you do indeed have a specific American accent. It's just a question of which one. A short, easy test can determine it, supposedly. (It sure got mine right: a "Midland" accent -- "You have a good voice for TV and radio." That is so true.)

Mine is "West" - "Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta." Spot on!

I guess Iowa hasn't gotten to me too much. The city I most identify with is Philadelphia, crazy. I bet it was the Mary merry marry question. Or wait, is that a mid-west thing that they all sound the same?

I'm not sure it got me quite right: "Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island."

I suppose a NYer dad and an Irish mom and a whole lot of moving confuses things, but I've always been told I have a lovely Midwestern accent.

I "definitely" have a Boston accent, which I did my best to lose in college. Alas. I'll even more definitely have it when I go home for Christmas.

Mine was no accent, which is depressing. I hate the fact I don't sound like I'm from anywhere, especially when I listen to The Band songs.

"It's just like in the word 'whore.'"

That may be my favorite answer to a quiz question ever. This is the word they think of that rhymes? More, shore, bore, core, no no. Whore. That's it.

My results? Inland North, but I think I answered the collar/caller question incorrectly. I said "same," but really they're different.

Inland North, not surprising, since I pronounce "soda" the way God intended it to be pronounced: "pop."

Where does "bag" sound like "vague"? I've never heard that, and I would worry that could be confused for "vag," as in short for "vagina."

Hilarious. Off-the-chart Boston, even though I tend to think it only comes out when I say "pizzer," otherwise known as "pizza." But according to the test, "You definitely have a Boston accent, even if you think you don't."
