Home work?
On Nov. 3, Marilynne R. is reading here in IC, presumably from Home, and some of my students will be going. I want them to have read something from Marilynne's earlier work, even just 10-15 pages. Suggestions?
Pages 9-17 of Gilead (the trip to the grandfather's grave) are a nice narrative representation. How good does mush with blackberry sound, as she writes it? "Melted" just kills.

Probably any 10-15 of Housekeeping. Well, any 10-15 that includes some of the haunting setting descriptions, which is most of the book.
Thanks so much!
