Now, of course, I don't know what it looked like in Latin

I just read today's Earth Goat tagline: "Anyone who has got a book collection and a garden wants for nothing." Has got? Did Cicero really write that? I think he should give his translator a beyond-the-grave smackdown.

I don't know for sure how it got translated like that, but

"Anyone who has got a book collection and a garden wants for nothing" cicero

gets 418 hits on Google

whereas

"Anyone who has a book collection and a garden wants for nothing" cicero

gets three! Somebody must have translated it like that many years ago and it stuck, I guess.

The George Bush verb construction is apparently de rigueur.
